Wool Dryer Balls
friendsheep's primary offering is their wool dryer balls that are meant to replace traditional dryer sheets in the laundry cycle. They are reusable and have several different cute designs and colors. Wool dryer balls are static absorbent, naturally soften fabrics, and reduce dry times so that they save power. Worried your laundry won't have the same fresh smell? Sustainably Focused
friendsheep's entire product line is meant to replace the single-use plastic in dryer sheets and fabric softener packaging. Deliveries are made in recyclable/compostable packaging to eliminate plastic from the product entirely. The cloth bags for the dryer balls are convenient and useful.
Additionally, each product sold is a new tree planted in Madagascar with +800,000 trees already planted. This is done in partnership with the "Eden Reforestation Project". The company as a whole is carbon neutral (possibly carbon negative) by partnering with the Carbonfund to offset emissions throughout the entire supply chain.
Toxin Free
friendsheep's dryer balls also eliminate the use of potentially toxic chemicals from the laundry process. These chemicals can end up polluting the air and water, and may be detrimental to our health. friendsheep's wool dryer balls work just as effectively, are reusable, and support several nonprofit organizations.
The claim about toxic chemicals in dryer sheets and fabric softeners come from the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This includes chemicals that are known carcinogens like acetaldehyde and benzene. Additionally, some compounds used in these products are considered endocrine disrupters or hyper allergens that may cause irritation of the skin and lungs. Loose regulations in the consumer products area does not require the disclosure of chemicals used in these products. friendsheep's dryer balls offer a chemical-free alternative to these products.
Ethical Sourcing
In partnership with its environmental goals, friendsheep is an advocate for both cruelty free sourcing and fair wage initiatives. Most of their products are wool-based and comes from small family farms in New Zealand. The sheep are sheared humanely and the sourcing is certified by Leaping Bunny. The dryer balls are hand-crafted by disabled and underprivileged women in Kathmandu, Nepal. They are paid fair wages with the goal of improving their living conditions and access to resources.
